Welcome to Pathways to Stillness Podcast

I am Dr. Gary Irwin-Kenyon, your host. I am a gerontologist and long-time Tai Chi practitioner, and author of the book Pathways to Stillness. I decided to create this series as a result of receiving many heartfelt responses to my book. As with my book, this series invites you to a conversation about how it is possible to discover your own pathways to a journey with meaning, peace, and stillness— even in these times of much loneliness, grief, anxiety, and radical change. Guest speakers share the wisdom of their own lifestories, the pathways they have discovered, and their vision for the future. The series also explores a particular approach to aging—narrative gerontology and narrative care.

In contrast to biological aging, this approach—biographical aging—focuses on how to understand your life as a story, and the unique meaning contained in that story. Guest speakers include Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul, and Dr. Bill Randall, who with myself and others worldwide has pioneered the field of Narrative Gerontology.

The series also extends to discussions of the applications of Narrative Gerontology for health care—for person centred care—where stillness experiences are possible for both care partners in this biographical encounter.
